The pie charts provide information about the energy production by various fuel sources in the UK between 2014 and 2018. Overall, the proportion of energy generated by renewables increased, while the opposite was true for coal. The figures for nuclear, gas, and oil and others remained almost unchanged, with gas generating consistently higher percentage of energy among all categories across the period.
Focusing on an increase, and figures that remained stable first, there was a moderate growth in the proportion of energy generated by renewables, rising from 15% to 26.2% between 2014 and 2018. Meanwhile, the figures for gas, and oil and others that produced energy exhibited nearly a third and an insignificant 4% of a total amount of energy production, respectively.
In contrast, energy production by coal and nuclear followed downward trends. Starting at 28.4% in 2014, the share of coal, contributing to energy generation declined to 18.3% by 2018. Nuclear, whereas, experienced a slight decrease in a percentage of energy production, going down from 22.5% to 21.6% during a 4-year period.
