The charts illustrate the distribution of population ages in two different countries – Spain and Oman in 2005 and also the prediction for 2055.
Overall, we see that people aged 60 and above have constituted the largest proportion in both cities at the beginning of the period, with a significant increase predicted for Oman and a considerable decrease expected for Spain by the end.
To begin with, in 2005 Oman had the smallest share, at 4% among those aged 15-59, while the youngest and senior groups’ proportion were equal, constituting 48%. However, forecast for 2055 predict significant growth of 57% among eldest residents, a notable decline to just above one – third (37%) in the youngest age group and a slight increase to 6% for the adults.
On the other hand, in 2005 in Spain about two – third of the population were people about 60 years and over, while around quarter of the proportion constituted children and adults, accounting for 14% and 24%, respectively. The projected figures for 2055 shows a decline to 46% in the number of eldest, while the proportion of adults increased almost twice. The 0-14 aged group of slightly reduced slightly to 12%.
