The pie charts compare the age distribution of the populations of Brazil and Germany in 2000 and 2050. Overall, in both countries, adults aged 15-64 were and will remain the largest age group. While the proportion of younger age groups will decline, the opposite pattern will be seen about seniors, whose numbers will rise dramatically over the period.
In 2000, in Brazil, the figure for adults increased slightly from 65% to 70% in 2050, while the young age group (0-14) decreased significantly by 13 percentage points from 30% in 2000 to 17% in 2050. The proportion of seniors rose, almost tripling from 5% to 13%.
In Germany, the adult age cohort (15-64) showed the same figure in 2000 and dropped to 48% in 2050. The youth segment remains almost the same, dropping slightly from 13% to 12%. The senior population experience a dramatic increase, rising from 22% in 2000 to 40% in 2050. This shows Germany’s population is aging at a faster rate compared to Brazil.
