The pie charts provide information on the proportion of energy sources used in Australia in 2008 and predictions for 2030.
Overall, it is being expected that an increase in the shares of hydro, wind gas, and oil, whereas the proportion of coal and other energy sources will decrease. Noticeably, geothermal will replace solar energy.
In detail, sustainable energy sources – hydro, solar and wind – accounted for relatively small proportions in 2008, with the percentage of 0.20%, 1.30% and 0.30% respectively. In 2030, shares of hydro and wind will increase slightly, making up 0.70% and 1.20%, while 4.30% energy will be produced from geothermal. There will be no considerable change in the percentage of other energy sources, with 3.80% in 2008 and 3.60% in 2030.
By contrast, Coal, Gas and Oil made up notable large proportions in 2008 and it will remain so in 2030. While 39% of total energy was produced by coal in 2008, there will be a dramatic decrease of 12% in 2030. The share of gas will rise significantly from 22.90% to 32% in 2030, that for Oil will see a slight increase, from 32.5% to 35.5%.
