The two charts compares how female residents in several US cities traveled to their workplaces across a ten year period, specifically in 1999 and 2009.
Overall, there is not a huge difference between methods of transportation in both years, only a major difference in bicycle and bus employment.
In 1999, in public and private transport, taking a metro was the most popular choice with 22%, and after it went down slightly to 20% in 2009, it remained the top preference. While bus usage saw a significant drop from 21% in 1999 to 16% in 2009. Same for private cars, which fell from 18% to 15%.However, womens who used the train remained the same.
For the active and shared transportation methods, bicycle experienced the most dramatic increase from 6% in 1999 reaching 11% in 2009.The percentage of female walking to the work rosed from 14% to became more relevant with 17% .Furthermore, although car sharing was the least common mode, its popularity doubled from 2% to 4% in 2009.
