The pie-charts give us the data about the percentage distribution of sales by various retails sectors that were made through online shopping in the years 2003 and 2013 in New Zealand. It compares the online sales of four different sectors namely travel, film/music, books and clothes.
As we can see from the first chart, the majority of the online sales in the year 2003 were done by the travel industry with 36 percent in total. The second largest contribution in this regard was made by the clothing industry with figures of 24 percent. Apart from these two, film/music had 21 percent part in overall online sales in that year and the least contribution of 19 percent was done by online selling of books.
In the year 2013, the largest amount of sales through the internet was made by the film/music industry with 33 percent of the total sales. Travelling and books industry had contributions of 29 percent and 22 percent respectively and the clothing industry had the lowest number of online sales with 16 percent only.
Comparing the datas of the two years 2003 and 2013, we can conclude that, with the advancements in technology and internet, the number of online sales has grown extensively in the film/music industry. Similarly, sales of books through online mode have also increased. Although, the same cannot be said for travelling and clothing industry and these industries have shown a descending trend in online sale.
