The pie charts give information about the sales proportion of five genres of books of a bookseller from 1972 to 2012.
Generally, it is clear that fiction-related books became more and more popular over the given period. Noticeably, these types of book also accounted for a majority of the total sales percentage.
It can be seen from the pie chart that, in 1972, the selling proportions of adults’ and children fiction shared a similar figure at 20%. 20 years later, both categories also experienced an increase at 25% in adult’s fiction and 22% in children’s one. However, a significant disparity appeared in 2012 when the percentage of sold fiction books for adult readers soared up to 45% which nearly doubled that of children’s fiction ( 25%).
Regarding other kinds of books, a remarkable downward trend was seen in biography and travel books with the former being decreased by nearly 10% and that of the latter being was 7% throughout the timeframce. Likewise, the percentage of other books also declined before from 25% in 1972 to 12% in 2012.
