The three pie charts compare the proportion of a bookseller’s sold books, categorized by types, from 1972 to 2012.
Overall, the bookseller sold more books about adult fiction and children’s fiction, while the reverse was true for biography, travel, and unspecified types of books.
Regarding the increasing categories, the proportions for adult fiction and children’s fiction were comparable, both started at one-fifth. While adult fiction rose considerably and finished at 45%, marking the highest figure recorded throughout, children’s fiction increased to a lesser extent, reaching 25% in the final year.
Concerning the remaining types of books, the share of travel books began at 15% in 1972, followed by a slight growth by 3% to reach its peak in 1992, before dropping significantly to only 8% two decades later. Finally, both biography and unnamed books showed gradual declines, with the former began at 20%, and the latter had a 5% higher beginning point. These two types of books ended at 8% and 12% after 40 years, respectively.
