The pie chart illustrates the proportion of students at one adult education centre who have taken certain kinds of courses between 1985 and this year.
Overall, it is evident that some courses, such as music appreciation and local history, have been replaced by IT courses. While the modern languages course comprised almost a quarter of the pie in 1985, the most popular course this year is IT.
With respect to the modern languages course, it witnessed a significant decrease in the proportion of pupils from 24% to 17% between 1985 and this year. Meanwhile, the art course has declined slightly from 17% to 15%. It is interesting to note that the course of cookery has grown moderately from 14% to 19%.
During four decades, fitness and dance have remained stable at 22%, without losing their relevance among students. Another striking change is the replacement of courses such as music appreciation and local history, which accounted for 8% and 15% respectively in 1985, by the IT course, which is popular among pupils, comprising 27% in our modern life.
