The three pie charts compare average amount of three potentially unhealthy nutrients namely, sodium, saturated fat and added sugar, consumed in the USA in the typical meal of breakfast, lunch, dinner as well as snacks.
Looking from an overall perspective, it is striking that majority of the sodium was consumed in dinner, while most of the added sugar was predominantly taken is snack. Moreover, the lunch tended to be salty and had a lots of saturated fat, whereas the breakfast had the lowest percentages of all nutrients.
In terms of sodium and saturated fat, dinner and lunch exhibited comparable proportions, with dinner having a higher percentage of both the nutrients (43% for sodium and 37% of fat) than lunch (29% for sodium and 26% for saturated fat). Conversely, the average meal of dinner and lunch contained a significantly lower amount of added sugar, with 23% and 19% respectively.
