The pie charts illustrate the proportion of water usage in three different categories (industrial use, agricultural use, and domestic use) across six regions.
Overall, the chart makes it clear that agriculture is the dominant consumer of water in four regions, especially in Central Asia, Southeast Asia, and Africa, whereas industry takes second place in Europe and North America. Domestic use recorded the lowest water usage in all regions.
North America and Europe recorded the highest water usage in industry, at 48% and 53% respectively. While Agriculture takes a small proportion, at 32% in Europe and 39% in North America, household use is relatively modest, making up around 13-15%.
In contrast, water consumption in Central Asia, Southeast Asia, and South America is overwhelmingly agricultural, thus taking the highest proportions, at 88%, 81%, and 71% respectively. In these regions, industrial use is minimal, ranging from 5% to 12%, and domestic use remains under 10%.
Unlike South America, which heavily relies on agriculture, Central Asia, however, has a higher share of water usage by 88%.
