The four pie charts illustrate the percentages of electricity generation from all categories and renewables in Germany and France in 2009.
Overall, Germany generated more total electricity compared to France.
Looking at the all types of electricity in both countries, the dominated electricity category in Germany was conventional thermal with 59.6%, while this type only accounted for 10.3% in France. Moreover, France generated 76% of nuclear electricity, but Germany only produced 23% of electricity in this sector.
As for renewables, Germany and France generated 17.4% and 13.7% respectively. Furthermore, biomass (39.3%) and wind (36.9%) electricity generation in Germany had similar level in the year. In contrast, biomass and wind only accounted for 8.1% and 10.5% in France, respectively. As for Hydroelectric generation, Germany held 17.7%, while France occupied 80.5% in this sector, which was the major one of total renewable electricity generation. Additionally, electricity generated from solar only contained less proportion in both countries, with 6.1% in Germany and 0.9% in France. Notably, there was no electricity generated from geothermal in Germany and France.
