The pie chart illustrates the energy produced in Germany and France from different sources and renewables in 2009.
Overall, in Germany, conventional thermal has the highest generation of electricity, and nuclear in France.
In Germany, conventional thermal has the highest generation of electricity at 59.6 percent, and nuclear has the second highest production of electricity at 23 percent. Finally, renewables are in third place at 17.4 percent. In France, nuclear has the highest generation of electricity at 76 percent, whereas renewables and conventional thermal are in second and third place with 13.7 and 10.3 percent, respectively.
Renewables in Germany, at first biomass energy at 39.3 percent, followed by wind energy at 36.9 percent, and hydroelectricity at 17.7 percent. Finally, solar energy is at 6.1 percent. Whereas, in France, hydroelectricity has dominated at 80.5 percent. Then, wind and biomass were at 10.5 and 8.1 percent, respectively. Solar energy has the least contribution at 0.9 percent. Geothermal was 0.0 percent in both countries.
