The given plans make comparisons between the floor-plan of a traditional and modern two-storey Japanese house.
Overall, it can be seen that there is one similarity of the two is the staircase is front of the entrance. The traditional Japanese house uses the same floor-plan for both the ground floor and upper floor and it has cupboards for storing futons. On the other hand, each floor of the modern one has a different plan and spaces of usage and tend to be spacious on the ground floor as opposed to the traditional one.
According to the traditional style, the entrance is always placed on the right with the foyer and on the left hand sits the kitchen. The cooking area is designed completely detached from the bathroom next to it with no door going through. In the modern style, both the staircase and the foyer is still arranged in the same placement. On the left hand side, now, sits a traditional bedroom with an equipped cupboard and the Tatami flooring. It is an innovative to see that the living/dining and kitchen area is now open-space creates a sense of spaciousness.
Upstairs of the traditional house, there are two bedrooms and each of them have its own sliding-door cupboards, these cupboards store the futon- which is a traditional mattress. The floor textile is the Tatami which is a type of straw mat used as flooring. On the other side, the modern house is applied with a trendy floor-plan with two bedroom and a master bedroom. The staircase is on the right of the square hallway between the rooms. The two normal bedrooms share a detached bathroom but the main bedroom has a bathroom attached to it privately
