The maps illustrate the changes that have taken place in the south wing of Walton Museum in 2008 and in 2012. Overall, the museum underwent significant modernizations. It used to serve a small number of people at a time, however, following the reconstruction, the museum’s capacity increased, with all the new facilities, such as entertainment and eating together with a lift, being carefully arranged to better serve the visitors.
In 1980, the cinema offered very limited amenities, shaping like a rectangle. Upon entering along with path, reception and reading room could be found on the right, while shop and cloakroom located at the bottom of these spots, separating with the stairs in the middle. There was also special exhibition room in the bottom/left corner.
Since then, the south bank of Walton Museum had significantly transformed. The most notable change had been expanded the building. A terrace constructed directly front of a new restaurant, providing overall seating capacity. The top/right side of the wing was transformed into additional spaces, including an exhibition room and self-service room
Although the shop, reading and special exhibition room had been preserved in their original position, with a least changing the size while reception area merged with the cloaks room, making a way for children area. The entrance changed into a rectangular hall, showing the museum’s commitment to improving the visitor experience. A new lift installed in the central-right side, facilitating access to the new upper apartments.
