The plan illustrates the South Wing of Walton Museum in 2008 and 2012, after it was redeveloped. Overall, the museum underwent a significant transformation, with the introduction of new floors and a wide range of facilities, while the ground floor remained relatively unchanged.
In 2008, the museum was noticeably small with only two floors. In terms of the first floor, there was a special exhibition room below the entrance, with a shop right next to it. Then, there were stairs in between the reception and the reading room on the second floor.
By 2012, the museum had witnessed dramatic changes, particularly with the construction of a new third floor and fourth floor. Notably, stairs were removed and replaced by a new lift in the middle of the building. While the shop remained unchanged, the cloakroom was demolished to make a way of children play area in the south-eastern part. Meanwhile, the entrance which had previously led to the reception, was converted into an entrance hall, and a new terrace was created above the second floor.
