Overall, the number of man aged 60 to 64 employed was higher than women who were the same ages. Firstly, the percentage of man employed in Belgium decreased strongly in 1997 and 2000, from 79 percent to 19 percent. Similarly, there were a decrease of the number of man who were 60 to 64 ages in employment in other countries: about 73 percent in 1997 and 55 percent in 2000 in the USA, from 79 percent to 47 percent in Australia and fluctuated between 85 percent and 74 percent in Japan.
With regard to the information of women employed, this data shows that the number of women aged 60 to 64 employed decreased to 7 percent in 2000 in Belgium. In addition, by 2000, the percentage of woman in employment in Japan was 40 percent, this was a decrease compared with 1997. However, in the USA and Australia, there was a slightly increase of the data: started at 36 percent in 1997 and reached at 39 percent in 200 in the USA and from 16 percent to 18 percent in the same years in Australia.
