The chart and table give information about daily allocation of time that male and female spent for household and pastime activities in Britain in 2008. Overall, it is evidence that men spent more time on leisure activities than women , except reading, whereas the opposite pattern could be observed for women in household activities.
Looking at leisure activities, men spent more time than women in a day. Men spent 137 minutes daily for watching TV , videos and listening to radio, while women spent 118 minutes. However, reading took 19 minutes of women which is a minute more than men’s. In terms of sport, both genders dedicated only 15 and 11 minutes per day , respectively.
Turning to the household activities, women spent most of the time on cooking and washing(75 minutes), men accounted for around 40 minutes in a day. Shopping and clothes washing and ironing consumed 25 and 30 minutes of women, however, men spend only 10 minutes daily for ironing. Repairing took around 20 minutes of men which is twice higher than women.
