The table and bar chart compare the amount of time males and females allocated for leisure and household activities in Britain in 2008.
Overall, watching TV and videos and listening to the radio were the most popular leisure activities for both genders, while they were less active when it came to doing sports and reading books. It is also clear that women took the lead in all household activities, with the exception of repairing.
Focusing on the leisure activities, the most notable differences were seen in the amount of time they spent on TV, video, and radio, with men allocated 137 minutes and women 118 minutes. However, both males and females spent considerably less time on reading books and listening to the radio, with less than 20 minutes per day.
Turning to the household activities, men allocated about 35 minutes for cooking and washing dishes, while women spent significantly more time, around 75 minutes. Similarly, men spent less time on clothes washing and ironing, accounting for about 10 and 30 minutes, respectively. The differences were smaller for shopping at 25 and 30 minutes for men and women. Repairing was the only activity for which men spent more time than women, with the respective figures of around 19 and 10 minutes per day.
