The table present how many research students were in Australian Universities in two distinct years(2001 and 2019). The pie chart illustrates the percentage distribution of the local and international students in four categories (Local males, local females, non-local males and non-local females).
Overall, the total number of research students increased signifcantly in 2010 with the international students count almost tripled by 2010. Notably, there was a substantial increase in the rate of international female students.
The table shows that the total number of students increased from 38,849 in 2001 to 54,081 by 2010. Amongst this the number of international research students rose sharply from 5,192 in 2001 to 14,593 in 2010. The rate of local male research pupils was higher in 2001 at 44% and dropped slightly to 38% by 2010. Similar pattern was seen with local female students which accounted for 43% in 2001 and the rate dipped to around 35% in 2010.
However, the rate of international students saw a large increase from a total of 13% in 2001 to 27% in 2010. The rate of foreign women students increased from 4% in 2001 to 15% in 2010. Similarly, the foreign male students rose from 9% to 12% respectively.
