The table demonstrates the actual populations of three cities, namely Sao Paulo, Jakarta and Shanghai, in 1990 with the predicted and actual population figures for 2000, measured in million.
Overall, the populations of Sao Paulo and Jakarta increased between 1990 and 2000, whereas Shanghai experienced a slight decline in population by 2000. In addition, Sao Paulo had the largest population among the three cities in both years, while Jakarta remained the least populated city throughout the period.
In the year 1990, Sao Paulo recorded the highest population at 15 million, but Jakarta had the lowest figure, with only 9.5 million people. Meanwhile, Shanghai’s population stood at 13.5 million, which was slightly lower than that of Sao Paulo but considerably higher than Jakarta’s.
In 2000, the population of Sao Paulo was predicted to rise dramatically to 24 million; however, the actual figure increased moderately to only 18 million. Similarly, Jakarta’s population was expected to climb to 14 million, although it finally grew by just 2 million to reach 11.5 million. By contrast, Shanghai was forecast to experience an increase to 17 million people, but its population instead fell by 1 million, declining from 13.5 million in 1990 to 12.5 million in 2000.
