Looking at the table in more detail, we can see that the number of new students in Manchester University stood at 327 and 1133, in 1937 and 1967 respectively. These figures increased almost six fold over a 50-year period, reaching 6254 students in 2017. In 1937 and 1967, the figures for male students overweighted females with 55% and 65% ; however, the percentage of females surpassed males in 2017, with 55%.
Finally, the table compares the percentage of locals, who came from within 40 miles of Manchester and oversea student enrolments. While locals made up 55% of the freshmen, foreigners who came from four different countries, were just above of the one in twenty in 1937. In the following 30 years, the figures for locals went down to 15%, whereas the percentage of overseas students increased by only 1%, reaching 7% in 1967. At the end of the period, the figures for students who were originally from Manchester, were 1-2%, in contrast, foreign student enrolments experienced a growth, accounting for 32%, and this students originally from 102 different countries.
