The table details the data about students studying across six different departments in the university of Australia in 2009. Overall, the percentage of female students was higher in English, Modern languages, and History. Modern Languages was also most studied among students who weren’t English and foreign students, and science-related departments were also common among these students. Whole maths, which had the lowest percentage of non-native but was higher among females and foreign students. However, the minority of females studied chemistry.
The percentage of female students was the highest in English and Modern Languages, at 67% and 63%, respectively, followed by history with 58%. In contrast, physics and chemistry have significantly lower female representation, at 37% and only 29% in turn, and math with 42%.
The majority of non-native (41%) and foreign students (54%) studied Modern languages. Physics and math were quite similar in both categories. Physics with 38% and math with 36% in the category of non-native students, while foreign students respectively had 44% and 43% for those two departments. Conversely, History has the lowest percentages in both categories, with 10% first language not English and 18% students who born outside Australia.
