The table illustrates the distance of grown- up people travelled by seven different types of transport in 1977 and 2007.
All in all, the car was the most popular transport with the highest distance in both two years while the opposite was true for the motorbike and bike. Furthermore, there were a considerable increase of the car, train, and taxi, whereas the other forms of transport experienced a fall.
In 1977, almost people commuted by car which is accounted for 3500 miles and car became the most mode of travel at that time. This was significant more than bus and train, recording 800 and 900 miles, respectively. However, adults walked average about 400 miles and this figure doubled to taxi, which is 200 miles, while the bicycle and motorbike maintained at the same level, at the average of 100 miles in that year.
In 2007, the car continued to be the most popular of travelling by adults and hit the highest point of 7100 miles. The bus and train accounted for a smaller proportion than car, which is 1000 and 800 miles, respectively. Besides, travel by walking and bus experienced decreased to 100 and 300 miles, while the bike and motorbike took up the lowest point that under 100 miles.
