Overall, the 3 oldest underground railway systems, which are in London, Tokyo and Paris, have the longest routes and the most number of times visited by passengers annually. Meanwhile, metro in Kyoto and Los Angeles both are the shortest compared to the other, as well as newest.
London’s railway opened in 1863, exactly 37 and 64 years earlier than Paris and Tokyo’s systems, respectively. Likewise, the travel distance of the British metro is double the amount of the Paris one, which is almost 200 kilometers. At the same time, there are high number of passengers in Tokyo, which is close to a billion per year.
On the other hand, the metro in Washington opened in 1976 and had 126 kilometres of road, while other two in Kyoto and Los Angeles were created after 5 and 20 years, also, the route was less than 100 kilometres long. Likewise, number of railway passengers in Washington is almost triple the count of British metro, which is only 5 more than in Kyoto.
