The given table compares the mean band scores of general test of International English Language Testing System (IELTS) among German, French, Indonesian and Malay students in 2010.
On the whole, Candidates from Germany and France had relatively higher overall band scores compared to Indonesian and Malay students. However, all students had difficulties in reading text, with notable exception of Malay students who had challenges in writing Task. Additionally, speaking was simple for all candidates.
With respect to German test takers, they had an average overall score of 6.7, being 0.2 higher than that of French students. Nevertheless, out of the four test, Germany candidates showed good command of English in speaking as their score stood at 6.9, and they possessed lowest score of 6.3 in reading. Similarly, French students were good in speaking as their mean score was 6.6, and they obtained fewest marks in reading.
On the other hand, Indonesia and Malaysia overall scores were 6.3 and 6.4 respectively. Both countries experienced a good score in speaking, but Indonesia students performed badly in reading and writing with 6.1 in each test, whereas Malay candidates scored poorly in writing as they scored 6.0.
