The table provides information about how many people in different age groups are employed in certain sectors in the UK in 1998 and 2006.
Overall, 18-25 aged people were mainly working in building sectors in 1998. However, in 2006, technology employed the highest number of young people compared to all other sectors.
Moving to a more detailed analysis, in 1998, members of the youngest age group dominated the others in hotel and catering, and building sectors, 25,764 in the former and 112,565 in the latter. The number of young workers in hotel sector was reported to be decreased in 2006, while other age groups increased in number, with 36-45 aged workers taking the lead (21,303). Conversely, all figures in building category followed a downward trend over the years, 18-25 aged employees still ranking the first and 56-65 ranking the lowest with around 86000 and 3000 in number, respectively.
The number of workers in technology section rose dramatically, ranging from approximately 450,000 in 26-35 aged group to 20,000 in the oldest group, in 2006. Education sector saw slight decreases in the number of certain aged workers (18-25 and 46-65), except for the remaining two, each going up by 1-3 thousand, and middle-aged group was recorded the highest with 125,436.
