The table compares the proportion of two genders by five age groups in a town who cycled in 2011. Overall, the rate of female population riding bikes was higher than that of male counterpart and the figure depended on the age. Particularly, the older people were, the less likely they wanted to ride bicycles
Upon closer inspection, 0-9 years old was the age group in which both percentage of female and male population reached the highest rate of using bikes, respectively at 51.3% and 50.3%. However, at 10-17 age, the proportion of women cycling declined to 42.2%, which was higher 24.6% of men. Likewise, the percentage of 18-to 39-year-old female population slumped to 17.1% followed by 9.7% of male counterpart.
In terms of the remaining age groups, both proportion of men and women at 10-17 years old experienced a decrease to 12.3% and 8.0% respectively. Conversely, at the oldest age group, the percentage of female population riding bikes witnessed an increase at 18.5%, which was higher than the figure for men, with the13.2% increase. However, these rises could not be compared to other age groups.
