The table depicts the amount of people in various age groups and genders that ride bicycles in the year 2011. There are 5 age groups compared: 0-9, 10-17, 18-39, 40-59 and 60 and older. Each age group is also divided into male and female.
Overall, it can be identifed that there are more females riding bicycles as compared to males. Additionally, bicycle riding is more popular with the younger generations.
Throughout all 5 age groups, the percentages of female riding bicycles are all higher than their corresponding male percentages. The highest percentages noted of 51% and 42% both belong to females in the age group 0-9 and 10-17 respectively. In contrast, the lowest percentage number is seen at 8%, which is for males in the age group 40-49.
Moreover, bicycle riding is noted to be taken up more by the younger age groups. The youngest age group of 0-9 is shown to have the highest percentages. This is not just the case in females with 51.4% but also similar in males with 50.3%. Additionally, the second highest percentages of 42.2% in females and 24% in males are seen to belong to the next youngest age group of 10-17. These values are more than double of those of the oldest age group of 60 and older whereby only 18.5% of females and 13.2% of males ride bicycles.
