When it comes to catering, the percentage of employment accounted for 16% in males in 1986, and this figure rose sharply, reaching a peak of 22% in 2006. Obviously, the employment rates remained at the same level in catering for women. In contrast, the manufacturing industry exhibited a noticeable downward trend in men, from 32% in 1986 to 17% in 2006. Finally, the percentage of employment rates observed a significant decline from 18% in 1986 to 6% in 2006, marking a reduction of approximately 12%.
In summary, while men and women remained the top participants in banking throughout, education and catering witnessed considerable upward trends. Conversely, the manufacturing industry was the only employment to witness a decline over the period in both genders.
