The table compares how the percentage of male and female workers changed in four different areas of employment in three decades, starting from 1986.
Overall, the share of men and women employees grew in all categories, with the exception of the manufacturing industry, where both genders showed steadily decline.
Regarding men workers, the most significant increase was observed in the proportion of banking, rising from 11% in 1986 to 21% in 2006.Similarly, the share of men in education and catering sectors. While the share of men in catering increased from 16% to 22%, between 1986 and 1996, and then this figure remained stable by 2006, the proportion of men in education witnessed minor rise, from 13% to 15% in the given period. In contrast, the percentage of men who works in manufacturing industry virtually halved from 32% to 17%.
In terms of women, the figures for female in education and banking increased slightly, rising from 33% and 12% in 1986 to 38% and 19%, respectively. The share of women in catering remained stable at 26% during the three decades. Finally, the percentage of women in manufacturing industry stood at 33% in 1986, this figure went up to 35% in 1996 and final year it represented 38%.
