The table illustrates the percentage of men and women employed in various sectors in one country over the years 1986, 1996, and 2006.
Overall, the proportions of individuals in both genders engaged in most sectors either increased or stabilized over the years, with the notable exception of the manufacturing industry. Moreover, women consistently outnumbered men in the education sector.
Initially, the proportion of men in manufacturing started at 32%, after which it experienced a considerable decline to 17% at the end of the period. Similar changes can be witnessed in the figures for women employed in this area, which gradually decreased from 18% to 6% over the years. Conversely, 11% of males participated in banking in 1986, but the figure nearly doubled to 21% in the next 20 years. Although the percentage of females also rose, it did so at a slower rate, growing from 12% in 1986 to 19% in 2006.
Regarding the catering and education sectors, women consistently outnumbered men. In catering, the proportion of women remained constant at 26% across all three years examined, while the percentage for men rose from 16% in 1986 to 22% in 2006. Meanwhile, in the education sector, 33% of females were employed in 1986, which was approximately double that of males. In the following 20 years, there was a modest increase to 15% in the percentage of males in education, while the proportion for women significantly rose to 38%.
