The table illustrates the proportions of male and female workers across four different employment areas in a country in three years: 1986, 1996, and 2006. Overall, the percentages of employees in both genders had almost increased over the years, except for manufacturing industry. While the highest percentages of men workers was witnessed in manafacturing industry in 1986, that of women was recorded in education in 2006.
Regarding male workers, its highest percentages was 32% in 1986 in manafacturing industry. In that year, the proportions of other catagories was around 11% and 16%. Until 2006, only the percentage of manafacturing industry decreased significantly to 17% after falling to 21% in 1996, making it the third highest among the four areas. In contrast, the percentage of education grew gradually to 14% in 1996 and 15% in 2006. Similarly, catering and banking also saw an increase to 22% and 21% in 2006, respectively. As a result, in 2006, catering was the accounted for the highest proportions, followed by banking.
As for women employees, education always comprised the highest percentage in three years, rising from 33% in 1986 to 38% in 2006. Catering had the same percentage at 26% over 20 years, making it always rank second after education. While there was a modest growth from 12% in 1986 to 19% in 2006 in the percentage of banking, manufacturing industry experienced a dramatic decline to only 6% in 2006, which was only a third of it in 1986.
