The table illustrates the results of an airline survey conducted in 2011, showing which in-flight features were ranked as the most important by economy class male and female passengers in two age groups (25-45 and 45+).
Overall, seat and leg room was the most highly valued feature for all groups, particularly among older passengers. In contrast, movies and in-flight entertainment were considered the least important, especially by those aged over 45.
Looking first at female passengers, 30% of women aged 25-45 selected seat and leg room as their top priority, compared with 35% of those aged over 45. Attendant service was also highly rated among younger females (34%), slightly more than older women (30%). Meals and drinks were chosen by 26% of younger women and 31% of older women. Only a small minority preferred in-flight entertainment (10% and 4% respectively).
A similar pattern can be seen among male passengers. Seat comfort was ranked first by 39% of men aged 25-45 and rose significantly to 46% among those over 45, the highest figure in the table. Meals and drinks and attendant service received moderate percentages, while entertainment was the least popular choice, especially among older males (4p%).
