The table presents the salaries of secondary/high school teachers in five countries in 2009.
Overall, Luxembourg offered the highest salaries at every stage of teachers’ careers, whereas Australia and Denmark reached the maximum salary much faster than the other countries.
Regarding the teachers salaries, Luxembourg paid by far the highest amount throughout the career. Teachers there started at 80,000, and their salary increased to 199,000 after 15 years before reaching a maximum 132,000. In comparison, Denmark offered the second highest starting funding at 45,000, although its maximum earning was only 54,000. Meanwhile, Australia paid the lowest starting salary of 28,000, and teachers reached the maximum of 48,000 after only 9 years.
Turning the number of years required to earn the highest salary, Denmark and Australia progressed much faster than other countries, taking only 8 and 9 years, respectively. In contrast, teachers in Luxembgourg had to wait 30 years, while the figures for Korea and Japan were even longer at 34 and 37 years. Despite, the long waiting period, Luxembourg still provided the highest overall earnings.
