Asia, excluding Middle East accounted for first rank in capturing fish from 1989 to 2001 ( 25,427 and 28,102 thousand metric tonnes respectively ) .In Oceania , the figure for capturing fish reached 944 thousand metric tonnes in 2001.Similarly, The trend in captures of fish in Sub-Saharan Africa increase dramatically from 2,169 to 3,140 thousand metric tonnes during twelve years.
In contrast, North America had a downward trend in fish which are captured by labourers from 5,069 to 3,995 thousand metric tonnes over ten years. The amount of fish captured in Central America & Caribbean hit a low to 1,377 thousand metric tonnes in 2001.
