Overall, domestic use accounted for the lowest share of use in all four countries. In Egypt and Saudi Arabia, agriculture is the largest user of water, while industry is the largest user in Canada and New Zealand.
In Egypt, the domestic and industrial water use rates are very low, at 8% and 10%, respectively. In contrast, agriculture consumes a significant amount of water, accounting for 82%, which is more than 10 times that of domestic use and more than 8 times that of industrial use. The same is true in Arabia, where the agricultural water use is more than 10 times the domestic water use and twice the industrial use.
Unlike the other two countries, Canada uses more than 70% of its water for industry, while domestic use is only two-sevenths and agriculture is only one-tenth of industry. And in New Zealand, domestic use is still the lowest, with industry and agriculture sharing almost equally.
