The given table compares how families in five different European countries spent their money on food and drink, housing, clothing, and entertainment.
Overall, food and drink and housing were the categories that households expended the highest proportion of their money on in all the surveyed countries. Also of note is that all the families spent the least money on clothing, except for Turkey.
To elaborate, households in France, Germany, and the UK used a higher proportion of their money for housing than the others, at an impressive 30% each, while the figures for this area were only ranked second in Turkey and Spain. The pattern got reversed when it comes to food and beverage, while 31% and 36% of Turkish and Spanish households’ income was paid for this, the figures were below 30% in the other countries.
Regarding categories with lower data, the share of money that households in Spain, France, and Germany spent on entertainment was higher than on clothing, with respective gaps of 7%, 6%, and 4%. However, almost no difference can be seen in the figures for the UK, where 11% of their money was allocated for each, whereas the sole exception was observed in Turkey, with 12% for clothing compared to 10% for entertainment.
