The table illustrates information concerning the native speakers and non-native speakers of six primary languages.
Overall, it is evident that apart from English, the remaining five languages have significantly larger numbers of native speakers than foreign speakers. Moreover, Mandarin Chinese is the most spoken language in the world, while Portuguese is the least common among the listed languages.
With a total of 1,090 million speakers and 900 million native speakers, Mandarin Chinese has only 190 million non-native speakers, which is considerably smaller than the figure for English, with a whopping 603 million speakers. However, despite its prevalent application by the other countries, only 339 million people speak English. Another influential language, Hindi has 370 million native speakers but 120 million foreign speakers.
Additionally, 350 million, 206 million and 203 million people speak Spanish, Arabic and Portuguese as mother tongues, respectively. They also have 70 million, 24 million and 10 million non-native speakers, respectively. Which indicates that these languages are less prominent than Mandarin, English, and Hindi.
