The table provides information about the quantity of international tourist arrivals in 9 countries during 2009 and 2010.
Overall, the figure for international tourist arrivals in almost all the countries experienced an increase, with the exception of Hong Kong where the number of arrivals saw a slight decrease and France where the number of foreign arrivals remained unchanged. It is noteworthy that France was and remained a leader in terms of the quantity of international tourist arrivals, whereas the share of change in the quantity of arrivals in Germany showed the most drastic increase.
France stood out with the biggest number of international tourist arrivals, with the figure remaining unchanged and accounting for 76 million during both years. The US came a close second, with the number of arrivals rising from 66 million in 2009 to 67 million in 2010 and witnessing a 1,5% growth. It was followed by Spain and the UK, where the quantity of foreign arrivals was the same in 2009, accounting for 55 million, but, from the onwards, grew to 56 million and 57 million in 2010 respectively. The share change made up 1,8% in Spain versus 3,6% in the UK. Italy was ranked five, seeing an increase from 44 million in 2009 to 45 million in 2010, which constituted a 2,3% increase.
As far as the remaining countries are concerned, the number of international tourist arrivals was lower. Turkey followed the above mentioned top five countries, with the figure for arrivals growing from 33 million in 2009 to 45 million in 2010 and with the change in the number of arrivals accounting for 33% The quantity of arrivals in other countries, namely, China, Germany and Hong Kong did not exceed 35 million during both years, with Hong Kong being the only country showcasing a decrease from 10 million in 2009 to 9 million in 2010, which made up 11% fall. Notably, Germany and China witnessed the most drastic increases, with the change in the share of the quantity of foreign arrivals making up 109% and 55% respectively.
