The table compares the proportion of people in terms of their visit at certain age groups, from the UK to Spain, between 1981 and 2015.
Overall, it can be seen that the proportion of younger and older groups saw varying degrees of increase and decrease, the 2 age categories out of 5 saw a gradual decline. The most noticeable change occurred in the 16-24 and 55+ groups.
In 1981, people aged 25-35 made up by far the largest group of visitors, accounting for 50% however, this figure fell sharply to 32% in 2015. Similarly, the proportion of tourists aged 35-45 decreased from 22% to 12% over the same period. By contrast, the youngest group, 0-15, saw a light increase, rising from 10% to 12%.
More dramatic growth was seen among visitors aged 16-24, whose share rose dramatically from just 4% in 1981 to 15% in 2015. In addition, the percentage of tourists aged 55 and over increased notably from 16% to 25%, making it one of the largest groups by the end of the given period.
