The chart shows the percentage of students attending different secondary school types between 2000 and 2009.
Overall, it can be seen that the proportion of pupils attending all school types decreased, with the exception of Community Schools, which increased significantly. In terms of individual items, Specialist Schools have the least proportion of students, while Community Schools have the highest percentage of pupils.
Voluntary-controlled Schools saw the biggest decrease over the nine-year period, plummeting from 52% to 20% (from 2000 to 2009). Grammar Schools saw a bigger decrease from 2005 to 2009 (of 7%) than the previous period (of 5%). Additionally, Specialist Schools experienced the smallest change over the entire period, decreasing steadily from 12% in 2000 to 11% in 2005 and finally 10% in 2009.
On the other hand, Community Schools skyrocketed, with the proportion of students increasing from 12% to 32%(from 2000 to 2005), which made it the second most popular secondary school type, rising from the least popular one in 2000. By 2009, the percentage of pupils increased further to 58%, which made it more common than all of the other school variant combined.
