The table compares units of five types of fast food eaten in Melbourne in 2005, now and projections for 2025.
Overall, while hamburger will remain the most consumed fast food in 2025, fried rice and noodles are going to be least favoured ones. Notably, people are expected to eat substantially more salad in the future.
As regards the most popular types of fast food, 40 units of hamburger were eaten by Melbourners in 2005, this being the highest figure in that year. In contrast, the second on the list was fried chicken, with 35 units. At present, these foods are consumed at almost the same amounts, with 38 units for hamburger and 37 for chicken. By 2025, both of them will witness a considerable increase, with 51 units of hamburger compared to 45 units of fried chicken.
In terms of the least chosen fast foods, fried rice and noodles made up 6 units each in 2005. Now, the latter is not quite as popular as the former, showing 8 units comoared to 9 units. Although the amount of fried rice eaten is expected to level off, that of noodles will have increased by 1 unit by 2025.
Having been the most unpopular fast food with only 5 units in 2005, salad has gained popularity among Melbourne’s population, reaching 15 units. In 2025, it will be the third most eaten fast food, justifying the overall rise in the amount of fast food consumption.
