Overall, Meat, Eggs, Nuts, Grains, Added Sugar and Added Fat were the highest calorie intake over the entire period while Dairy, Vegetable and Fruit were the smallest categories.
Initially, Meat, Eggs and Nuts ranked first in terms of calorie consumption, figure increased to 480 by 2010 while Grains ranked second, rose sharply from 430 in 1970 to 625 in 2010. Added Fat experienced the most significant growth, the figure rose enormously by 230 from 410 to 640 between 1970 and 2010 while Added Sugar rose gradually from 400 to 460. Total amount of calories increased substantially from 2165 to 2665 between 1970 to 2010.
Meanwhile, Dairy declined slightly from 265 to 255 by 2010 and Vegetable remained stable until 2010, the figure decreased slightly from 125 in 1990 to 120 in 2010. Fruit remained as the smallest category for the entire period despite increasing from 70 to 85 by 2010.
