Overall, English and modern languages attract the largest number of female students, as opposed to those in first language not English and born outside Australia groups, which were the lowest figures for both. Opposite trends can be seen in the figures for math and chemistry, when the proportion of females participated in these areas was in the bottom of ̉ all majors.
72% of females engaged in English, and the figure for modern languages, physics and history were lower at 68%, 56%, and 52%, respectively. For non native speakers, math was the major that had large number of students joined in, which was 49%, followed by history, chemistry and physics, with respective figures being 45%, 42% and 38%.
A significant number of students in born outside Australia group studied nature science disciplines, which were 56% for physics, math and 48% for chemistry. Meanwhile, women figure mostly overwhelm in social science fields.
