Overall, the proportion of students who are females taking part in humanities, education, and science was quite high, the opposite was true for the people whose origin of birth was not Australia and the people who did not speak English as a first language.
In 2011, humanities and education departments accounted for the highest proportion of females, at 72% and 68% respectively. Followed by 56% and 52% were the proportion of females who participated in physics and science departments. Lower figures were witnessed in IT and Engineering departments, at 17% and 15% respectively.
The percentage of students who did not speak English as a first language stood highest in the three departments, with science( 45%), IT(49%), and engineering (42%). A slightly smaller proportion of those students was experienced in physics, at 38%. While the predominantly females chose humanities and education, the reverse was true for the figure of people whose first language was not English, with humanities (12%) and science(16%). In terms of the proportion of people whose origin of birth in Australia tended to choose humanities, education, and science quite low compared to others, ranging from 20% to 31%. In contrast, 56% of those students were seen in the physics and IT departments, followed by 48% of the engineering departments.
