The US attracted 66 million tourists in 2009, increasing slightly to 67 million in 2010, a modest rise of 1.5%. Spain and the UK experienced a modest rise in visitors, climbing from 55 million to 57 million, an increase of 3.6%. As regards Italy, which slightly increased from 44 million visitors to 45 million, representing a 2.3% rise.Turning to the countries with significant increases, Turkey, China, and Germany stood out.
Turkey’s visitor numbers rose from 33 million to 45 million, a substantial increase of 33%. In China, the number of tourists grew remarkably from 22 million in 2009 to 34 million in 2010, representing a substantial 55% growth. Furthermore, Germany recorded the most significant growth in tourist arrivals, doubling from 11 million in 2009 to 23 million in 2010, a considerable rise of 109%. Hong Kong was the only country to experience a decline in tourism, with visitor numbers falling from 10 million in 2009 to 9 million in 2010, representing an 11% decrease.
