The tables below show about the potato intake and production in South and Central America, Africa, North America, Europe and Asia/Oceania in the year 2006.
Overall, it is clear that consumption of potato in Europe was observed the highest kg, while that for Africa was made up the lowest. Notably, the production of potato was top in Europe, whereas the smallest figure was for South and Central America.
Looking at the table in more detail, consumption of potato in Europe was 96.1 kg, making it the highest figure. That for North America stood at 57.9 kg, followed by Asia/Oceania and South and Central America, which constituted 25.8 and 23.6 respectively. As for Africa, its figure accounted for 14.1 kg per person, which was the lowest in the table.
In terms of potato production, Asia/Oceania was the leading producer, following some way behind that of Europe, North America and Africa, with 131.2, 126.3, 24.7 and 16.4 million tonnes respectively. However, South and Central America produced only 15.6 million tonnes of potato – the lowest figure for potato production among all the other countries.
