The tables illustrate the consumption and production in five global regions in 2006.
Overall, Europe was leading in consumption while Asia and Oceania produced the most tonnes of potato combined.
Referring to the consuming rate, Europe ranked first with 96.1 kg per capita. North America followed at a significantly smaller 57.9 kg. In stark contrast, the consumption of South and Central America, and Asia and Oceania ranged from 23 to 25 kg per individual while Africa had the least consuming proportion of 14.1 kg.
Regarding production, most tonnes of potato made was recorded in Asia and Oceania with a combined number of 131.2 million tonnes. Despite being the top consumer, Europe contributed a slightly less amount of 126.3 million tonnes. Producing 24.7 million tonnes, North America experienced a 100 million difference compared to those two regions. South and Central America shared the same amount of potatoes being made with Africa when both produced around 16 million tonnes that year.
