Overall, the global population witnessed general growths in population from 1950 to 2000 and are expected to maintain the trend, except for that in North America and Europe which continuously dropped. Additionally, Asia’s population far exceeded that of all other continents combined.
Regarding continents experiencing an upward trend in their population, the proportion of Africans is estimated to climb considerably from 9% in 1950 to about one-fifth of the total population in 2050. Oceania and North America, however, started from a negligible share, their percentage rose gradually to 1% and 9% and are predicted to maintain their figures until the last year surveyed.
As for remaining regions, although a slight decrease is forecast during 2000 and 2050 from 60% to 59%, Asia still accounted for the overwhelming majority of the world’s population.
